Thermometers.-For measuring or controlling temperature, a medium is used which is not itself vaporizable at the temperatures to be worked at, but which contains in combination, or in a state of absorption, gases that are freed and remain free on heating. Metallic halogen salts that have absorbed ammonia are stated to be suitable. In the apparatus shown, the flow of heating-gas in the pipes 4, 6 is regulated by the pressure on the diaphragm 7 of the gas generated in the receptacle 8.
