Abstract

[Addition to 10,729/12.] Cords, formed from fibres and adhesive; smoothing.-Cords are made by forming a strip or band of fibres arranged parallel to one another in the direction of their length and approximately one fibre thick, passing the strip through a suitable adhesive, and subsequently twisting it. The strip may be formed in the apparatus described in Specification 11,731/13, [Class 140, Waterproof &c. fabrics], the thickness being regulated by the size and weight of the sliver fed to the machine and by the speed of the drawing-rollers. The strip is passed through feed-rollers working in a bath of adhesive such as gelatine and is twisted while in a semi-moist condition by any suitable form of revolving head as it issues from the machine or after it is removed therefrom. The cord is finished smooth by passing it through a bath of adhesive and a suitable die. The twisting of the strip may take place after the adhesive is dry, the surface being moistened with naphtha or other suitable solvent. The strip may be wound on a sheet of cardboard and cut to the desired width.
