Rolling. - Bars a r e s h i f t e d transversely from one pass to another and simultaneously rotated in rolling mills by the relative axial movement of suitably grooved rollers, one or both of which may be replaced by correspondingly notched bars p, p', Fig. 6. The rolls a, b, one of which may be driven so that they act as feed-rolls, may be mounted in a frame composed of beams c, d, which is movable transversely to move the rolls simultaneously, the relative axial movement being obtained from a fluid-pressure ram h. The beams c, d may be hinged together at one end c<1> and their pass adjusted by an hydraulic plunger h<1> at the other. The rolls have a smooth portion and collar 4 so as to shift the work without rotation when required.
