Abstract

14,387. Paul, S. C., and Hill, J. W. June 29. Rolling.-A machine for forging axles, bolts, &c. has three parallel rolls 1, 2, 3, one or more of which are driven by spur gearing, and the bearings of the rolls 2, 3 are moved in guidas towards, or away from, the centre of the work 12 by means of eccentrics coupled together. The rolls have helical projecting rolling-surfaces 17, 18, 19, and are so geared together that the acting parts of the surfaces are always together, and the flats 23, 24, 25, which allow of the bar 12 being advanced, come opposite the work simultaneously. The rolls are grooved or otherwise shaped to correspond to the finished articles, and may have narrow rolling-strips 22 at the ends.
