Abstract

July 11, 1912, [Convention date Flat endless-belt conveyers; push - plate or scraper and trough conveyers and elevators; driving-gear; discharging and feeding devices; guiding belts.- Relates to conveyer belts for feeding cartridges after manufacture from a container one by one. According to the invention the belt conveys correctly-directed cartridges within guides round a pulley and then drops them through an outlet on to a discharge conduit, and the outlet is kept closed when the discharge conduit is full, the cartridges not delivered being then conveyed round again. As shown in Fig. 1, a steel belt b is stretched over pulleys c and passes beneath a hopper a, whence it removes one cartridge at a time between cams g. The pulleys c and the lower run of the belt are covered by casings i. Reliable motion of the belt is ensured by the engagement of cams h with recesses in the pulleys. The cams h are also adapted to slide along fixed rails to prevent the belt from sagging. When a cartridge arrives over the discharge outlet, a cam h on the back of the belt bears against a roller 1, deflects a bell-crank lever 2, 3, and tensions a spring 4, which, if the discharge conduit p is not full, works a lever 5, 6 and opens a flap n. But if the discharge conduit is full, an arm 10 on a spindle 9 is deflected to one side against the action of a spring and another arm 8 on the same spindle locks the flap n against the actions of the spring 4; the flap remaining closed, the cartridge is taken round the lower pulley into the hopper a through a non-return gate at 32, and again round the same course as before, until the discharge conduit is free.
