Abstract

9275. Christensen, A. V. April 19. Siphon-discharge water-waste preventers, automatic; protecting from frost. - In water-closet flushing-apparatus, the water for one or more flushing-tanks 1 provided with an automaticallydischarging float chamber 2 is admitted through a sliding tubular valve 19 situated at such a depth as to be free from frost and provided with apertures 22 which are uncovered by depressing the rod 7. The water is forced along the tube 14 by an injector 18, 17 and thence through the apertures 23 to the main pipe 6, the tank 13 being partially emptied and the pressure therein reduced. The rod 7 is actuated by a cam 11 and U-shaped member contained in a casing 9 on the pipe 6, a cam and U-shaped member being associated with each tank 1, each cam in its inactive position 11<a> allowing the rod 7 to be actuated by the cam and lever 5 of another tank. The valve 26 is opened on actuating the rod 5 by links 24, 25 and admits water to the tank 1. A rod 27 attached to the float chamber has a head 28 which, when the float rises, passes the spring pawl 31, and, when the tank is discharged and the float descends, catches the pawl 31 and rotates the lever 29, thereby allowing the lever 5 and cam 11 to return to the inactive position under the action of a spring 32, the valve 19 being then closed by a spring 33 acting on the end of the rod 7. After a flushing operation, the water in the pipe 6 and tank 1 returns to the tank 13, the connexion 35 between the pipe 6 and tank 1 being provided with an automatic valve 36 which opens to the pipe 6 when the pressure therein is reduced, and the pipe 14 being provided with additional draining-apertures 34 through which the water flows when the valve 19 is closed. The rod 7 may be disposed outside the pipe 6. If only one flushing tank is provided, the valve 26 may be omitted and the tank connected directly to the pipe 6.
