Abstract

6795. Hucks, W. March 19. Boxes; followers, bushes, and the like.- The reciprocating stems 11 of valves more especially intended for use with cylinders containing compressed or liquefied gas are packed by means of a cylindrical sleeve 13, through which the stem 11 slides, a packing-ring 18 compressed so as to bulge inwards and outwards by a metal washer 17 and screw cap 19, and a second packing- ring 20 on the valve stem disposed in a recess in the sleeve 13. In the open position of the valve, as shown, the ring 20 is compressed and forms a tight joint between the sleeve and the valve stem.
