Seals and sealing. - Newspapers and like periodicals are sealed preparatory or subsequently to delivery from the printing-machine by means of an enlargedheaded tongue cut through the superposed sheets of the paper and interlocked with an adjacent slit formed through the sheets, for example a fanged tongue a interlocked with a T-shaped slit b. The papers are fed through a pair of rollers provided with suitable cutters through a second pair provided with a projecting tooth to turn up the tongue a, past a former with convergent sides to complete the folding of the tongue a over the slit b, and finally through a pair of rollers provided with a projecting tooth to force the tongue through the slit.
