Abstract

4706. Wrede, H., and Corn Products Co. Feb. 24. Coating - compositions. - Paper adapted for fine lithographic printing is coated with a sediment consisting of a colloid silicate deposited on argillaceous material in the presence of starch. The sediment is obtained by mixing an argillaceous substance such as kaolin, chinaclay, blanc fixe, or satin white, with a solution of water-glass, and adding to the mixture a solution of starch and alum. The addition of formaldehyde and ammonia gives the paper a waterproof quality. The sediment is brushed on or otherwise applied to the paper.
