3471. Alesbury, H. T. Feb. 11. Balancing automatically. In order to counteract the effect of acceleration or retardation of an aerial machine on the swinging weight or platform controlling the longitudinal balancing plane, the weight or platform A is connected to the machine by crossed links or cords C, D. Lateral movement of the platform is prevented by links H extending outwards and upwards from the platform to the machine. The seat B is carried at some distance above the platform. The elevator is connected by a link F to an arm G on the platform. A similar suspension arrangement may be employed to counteract the effect of centrifugal force when the platform is employed to control lateral balancing planes. In an arrangement in which the platform N, Fig. 5, controls both the lateral and longitudinal balancers, it is suspended by universallyjointed links O, P, Q.
