Abstract

2173. Harrison, W. L. Nov. 15, 1912, [Convention date]. Direct air - pressure apparatus, non - automatic ; piston apparatus for discharging receptacles, - Relates to liquid-ejecting devices of the kind in which a liquid-containing vessel is provided with an inlet valve through which compressed air can be forced into the vessel. The projecting outer end of a valve tube M is fitted with a screw cap L, which is in turn protected by a screw cap K adapted to serve as a handle. A series of holes K' are each adapted to receive a hook by which the apparatus is suspended. The compressed air and liquid in the vessel A may be separated by a follower F, which is provided with rods G acting as a guide, and also as a stop for limiting the upward movement. A stop F<1> limits the downward movement, and has a bevelled apperture F<2> for the insertion of a rod passed through the outlet of the vessel A for forcing the follower back when the vessel is being charged with liquid. During this operation, the air valve N is opened, either by unscrewing or, in the modification shown in Fig. 5, by means of a pin R<1> on the end of a plug R screwing into an axial bore in the handle, the cap L<1> of the valve tube M having been first removed. Other similar arrangements for sealing and protecting the outer end of the valve tube are described.
