Abstract
1594. Blanc, L. Jan. 20, 1912, [Convention date]. Bottles and drinking-vessels, washing. - Apparatus for washing bottles, drinking-vessels, &c. in which the bottle &c. is inverted over a tube forming a supply-pipe for a mixture of sand and water raised from a surrounding vessel by an injector action, and in which the nozzle producing the injector effect continues to deliver clean water to the tube for rinsing purposes after the sand and water supply has been cut off, is designed with, a movable nozzle so that the operator, while pressing down on the bottle to keep the water-supply valve open, can ascertain the exact moment at which the injector action ceases and the rinsing operation commences. The apparatus comprises a vessel a, containing sand and water, and fitted with a water-supply pipe b inside the circular tube f, the lower end of which is provided with holes f<1> while its upper end is reduced in size and forms a seating for the valve i carried by the bottle-engaging tube h. The bottle neck rests upon the wings i' of the valve i, while the tube h rests on the upper end of the slidable nozzle d which also forms the cut-off valve for the watersupply. Under normal conditions, the restricted orifice of the nozzle throttles the egress of the water sufficiently for the pressure in the pipe to raise the nozzle to its highest position in which water-supply is cut off by the orifices d<2> being covered by the member c'. Pressure applied to the bottle by the hand of the operator first depresses the nozzle d to open the water-valve, and, on being continued, forces the valve i on to its seating and at the same time brings the base of the nozzle d into contact with the spring e. As soon as the upper end of the tube g is closed, the injector action commences and sand and water are drawn through the holes f<1>, h<1> and delivered to the bottle. When the downward pressure is released, the spring unseats the valve i and stops the injector action. The nozzle d then supplies pure water for rinsing purposes. At this stage the spring is no longer operative and the operator is made aware of the commencement of the rinsing operation by feeling the diminution in the upward pressure on the nozzle. The injector tube g may be rifled or grooved in any other manner to produce a rotary jet of fluid, or its upper end may be fitted with a fixed or rotary nozzle designed to deliver the fluid over the whole interior surface of the bottle. Three constructions of nozzles are shown for this purpose.
