Feb. 6, 1912, [Convention date] Extrusion machines ; processes.-In the production of patterned cords of plastic material, such as artificial horn, the various coloured masses are fed from separate presses into a common mixing- chamber fitted with fixed or movable mixing or deviating devices, and are united to form a patterned cord which passes through a discharge opening in the mixing-chamber. Fig. 1 shows one form of apparatus in which the materials from the presses 1, 2, 3 are forced into a mixing-chamber 4 fitted with a worm 5 ; Fig. 2 shows a modification in which the chamber 4 is furnished with a rotary cross 7 ; and Fig. 5 shows a further modification in which the chamber 4 is provided with fixed baffies 9. If desired, the pattern may be further modified by providing a perforated plate 11 in the discharge opening of the mixing-chamber. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) comprises also the production of patterned cords by forcing different coloured materials from separate presses into a common outlet divided into a number of passages forming a pattern mould, each colour being supplied from a single press and, if necessary, being fed into different passages of the mould through branch conduits. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
