Direct air-pressure apparatus, automatic.-In apparatus of the type in which liquid, such as sewage, is raised by means of air compressed by another liquid, two vessels A, B are employed for compressing the air, the air first being compressed from the vessel A into the vessel B by water flowing into the latter vessel through the pipe D from the supply-pipe H. When the tank A is full, water flows down the pipe F into the bucket G, tilting the lever on which it is mounted, and thus opening the valves K, M, and moving the valve E so as to close the supply-pipe H and open the pipe D to the vessel B. Water now flows from the tank A into the tank B, forcing the air therefrom through the pipe S into the chamber C from which the liquid to be raised is forced up the rising main V. At the same time, a little water passes through the pipe P into the bucket 0, which, when full, opens the valve N and allows the water to escape from the chamber B. The buckets G, O are each provided with small holes through which water leaks, thus returning the valves to the position shown when the cycle is repeated. Air is admitted to the chambers by means of pipes provided with mercury seals T, Y. A small vent hole Z is provided to allow the chamber R to go on draining when the valve K is closed.
