Abstract

27,210. Webber, F. Nov. 26. Net supports. - Relates to a post for tennis nets &c., of the kind provided with a screw and nut for tensioning the net. The invention consists in disposing the screw within a recess in the post, or directly within the post itself, the net cord being attached to the nut and passing as usual over a guide pulley at the upper end of the post. The post is secured to the ground by direct engagement with an anchor member. I t h e construction shown in Fig. 1, the post consists of-a metal tube provided with a hinged or removable top g and enclosing the net-tensioning device, which consists of a nut e and a screw d rotated by means of a handle f. The lower extremity of the post fits into a base k and is secured by means of an anchor member i and a pin j passing through the base, the post, and the anchor member. An adjustable stop a<2> is provided, and to facilitate adjustment the foot of the post is slightly cut away. In a modified construction the short end of the anchor member is bent upwards axially within the post. When a wooden post is used, the tensioning-screw d is arranged in a recess. Additional anchor members i may be employed.
