Abstract

26,770. Johnson, J. Y., [Badische Anilin & Soda Fabrik]. Nov. 21. Catalytic processes.-Hydrogen is prepared by causing the reaction between carbon monoxide and steam, viz., CO+H2O=CO2+H2, to take place under pressure and at a raised temperature in the presence of a catalyst, such as iron and nickel, and the hydrogen so produced, while still.under the same pressure, may be used in the catalytic production of ammonia. In many cases the heat of reaction is sufficient to maintain the necessary temperature. The carbon monoxide used may be pure or diluted with other gases, as in water-gas or generator gas.
