Abstract

Generating by direct contact of combustion products; instantaneous generators; boilers with gas-fired packed tubes and heating spaces.-A mixture of heated gas or vapour and products of combustion is produced by the direct utilization of the heat of surface combustion. Specifications 25,808/09 and 29,430/09 are referred to. Figs. 1, 2, and 4 show apparatus for prodncing a mixture of superheated steam and products of combustion. Water is sprayed by a pipe 8, Fig. 2, into a bed of refractory material 7, within which is burnt a combustible mixture supplied through a passage 6. In a modification, Fig. 1, water is sprayed into refractory material contained in one or more open-ended tubes 4 mounted in a water chamber 2. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 4, water is evaporated by the radiant heat from a diaphragm unit 29 mounted in a support 30.
