[Cognate Application, 3711/13.] Pivot adjustments.-In wind-screen and like adjustable joints of the kind in which the locking-arrangement is contained within a pair of cup-shaped members attached to the screen and dash-board or equivalent parts and arranged with their mouths adjacent to each other, the cups are provided with inwardly-extending transverse channels which embrace the edges of the fittings to which they are attached. The parts of the joint except the pivot pin are preferably made from sheet metal pressed or stamped into shape. The cups 1, 2 are preferably made from sheet brass and are provided with transverse channels 4, 5 to fit the members A, B of the parts to which they are attached. The cup 2, Fig. 1, may be further secured to the member B by screws. The locking- arrangement may be of various forms, that shown in Figs. 1 and 4 comprising a steel cup member 6 non-rotatably mounted in the cup 2, and suitably cut away to fit over the channel 5. The serrated edge of the cup 6 is engaged, under the action of springs 12, by the similar edge of a cup 9 slidably mounted upon a square or rectangular block 8 fixed to the cup 1 or to the pivot pin 3 which is adapted to rotate with the cup 1. In the modified form shown in Fig. 5, the cup 1 is rotatably mounted on the pin 3, and carries with it a cup 13 carrying a series of balls 16 engaging under the action of a spring-pressed plate 18 with holes in a plate 17 fixed within the cup 2. Provisional Specification 25,524/12 also describes a locking-arrangement comprising a pair of inner cups arranged with their bottom portions adjacent to each other and spring-pressed into engagement, a series of balls carried in the bottom of one cup engaging recesses in the bottom of the other cup, or the bottoms of both cups being provided with radial or circular locking-grooves.
