Abstract

Gear-cutting.- Wormwheel generating or like machines have a special arrangement of cutter slides and driving - mechanism, and the feedgear and differential are so arraoged that the correction is applied to the rotation of the hob instead of the blank, enabling hand rotation and traverse of the hob for setting-up the machine without the labour of turning the blank-table. The hob slide 3 moves on ways 1<1>, inclined as shown in Fig. 3, on the saddle 1 adjustable towards and from the blank mandrel 5 by a feed-screw bevel geared to a hand wheel 36. All hand wheels and levers are arranged in a position, at the front of the machine, convenient to the operator. The hob has a direct drive through gearing contained in the saddle. Worm gearing 17, Fig. 4, connects the hob with the diagonal shaft 16 connected to the shaft 14 through the differential 15. Worm gearing 18 drives the feed-screw for the slide 3, and the correcting-motion reaches the differential through worm gearing 35. The shaft 14 is geared to the power pulley and to the blank-mandrel through the variable-speed and change gearing shown in Figs. 2 and 4. The lever 7', Fig. 3, controls the pulley clutch and the wheel 8<1> the variable-speed gear. Drive is transmitted from the gearing 18 by the shaft 20, Fig. 2, variablespeed gear 21, sleeve 22, worm gearing 24 and reversing-bevels 27 to the feed-screw 29. Handoperation is provided for at 29<2> and also a changegear connexion to a shaft 33 which passes through the sleeve 22 to drive the gearing 35. The gearing lying within the head works preferably is an oil bath (not shown). According to the Provisional Specification, the gearing 35 is driven directly from a shaft corresponding to the sleeve 22.
