Abstract

Jacks.-In lifting-jacks in which a lifting- member slidably mounted in a standard is raised throughout its whole range by a single movement of a pivoted operating-lever, and is provided with ratchet teeth engaged by a pawl for retaining it at any height, the lifting- member is provided with oppositely-disposed lugs which extend through slots in the standard and are engaged by the bifurcated end of the operating-lever, while the lever is fitted with means for positively releasing the pawl in all positions during the lifting movement. The jack comprises a standard made in halves resting on a pair of wheels e and a central rear support. The operating-lever h is fixed to the pivot pin i which extends through the standard and carries levers i at each end. The levers j engage the projections k on the lifting-member f which is provided with a screw rough adjustment. The retaining-pawl m is provided with a screw t, the head of which engages a slotted segment r on the operating-lever. The screw slides in the slot without operating the paw! during the movement of the lever, but by raising the small lever n the pawl is disengaged. A spring v restores the pawl to its acting position.
