Abstract
24,535. Buer, H. Oct. 26. Processes of treating seeds; roasting granular substances.-Soya beans are treated for the production of a coffee substitute to remove substances of unpleasant taste and to render them larger and porous. The beans are washed, roasted at 160‹ C. rising to 190‹C., cooled, roasted again at 210‹ C. rising to about 230‹ C., and treated in a rotary sieve C successively with water from a pipe W and steam from a pipe D. Excess moisture is removed by air from a fan E. The beans may be soaked in a hot sugar solution, and are finally dried at about 165‹ C.
