Systems depending on the use of two or more machines.-The wattless or watt components of the load are automatically distributed among parallel connected alternators by regulators operating upon the engine governors or field-regulators respectively. A combined regulation may be effected by using both methods simultaneously. The arrangement is of the type in which current transformers in homologous phases of the various machines have their secondary windings arranged in series to form a polygon, and consists in connecting windings or resistances influencing the regulators on the one hand to corresponding corners of the polygon and on the other hand to a common point. The current - transformer secondaries of those e machines that are idle may be short - circuited, so that the arrangement may serve for two machines only. Fig. 1 shows four alternators in parallel, the currenttransformer secondaries h<1> ... h<4> being in series as a polygon. The exciter field regulators e<1> ... e' have operating-coils g<1> ... g<4>, and controlling-coils j<1> . . . J<4> are on the one band connected to corresponding corners of the polygon and on the other to a common point. The Specification describes two modified arrangements, in one of which a portion of the operating - coils g<1> ... g<4>, and in the other a portion of the resistances f<1> ... f<4>, carries the controlling- current. The transformer arrangement shown is that required for distributing the wattless components of the load; to deal with the watt components, the regulators act upon the engine governor, and the transformers h<1> ... h<4> are connected in series with the middle phases of the alternators. The operation under both conditions is explained vectorially.
