Abstract

23,111. Smith, A. H. Oct. 10. Feed - motions.-In a reciprocating gripper, adapted for use to feed bar-stock into machines, the gripping-means are adjustable, so that the device can be used with stock of different diameters. A body 1 has a double inclined head 3 slotted radially to receive the gripping-jaws 4, which are held to their seats by spring plungers 7. The jaws are provided with hollow chisel-pointed gripping-edges and inclined back edges which coact with an internally coned shell 10 for adjustment. This shell may be screwed on to the head or may slide longitudinally for adjustment. In a modification, Fig. 7, the jaws are forced outwards by a spring 14 instead of inwards by plungers, and in a further modification, the chisel-pointed jaw is replaced by a ball-pointed spring jaw, Fig. 9, in which case the spring 14 is omitted.
