Labelling.-Relates to machines for affixing sealing-labels to bottles or around the ends of other articles, and consists in devices for pressing the labels on the articles and for centring the articles with regard to the affixing-device. These parts are shown applied to a machine having label-pickers 1, a gumming-device 3, a label-holder 2, and a finger 12 for holding the centre of the label on the article as described in Specification 13,929/10. The finger 12 carries a hood 13 having depending flanges 14 and carrying a plate 16 suspended from it by a sliding rod 15 pressed down by a spring 18. A sheet 17 of india-rubber or other flexible material is attached to the plate 16 so as to extend beyond the flanges 14. When the finger 12 is depressed, the sheet 17 presses the centre of the label b on the stopper of the bottle 10, and the flanges 14 bend down the ends of the sheet to affix a part of the ends of the label to the neck of the bottle. The remaining parts of the label are affixed by pads 23 carried by rocking arms 21. The bottles are placed on a table 7 supported by a spring 8 in line with a main table 11; both tables are adjustable vertically. A bar 7<a> is adjustably secured to the table 11 and facilitates the positioning of the bottles on the table 7. Tongs 30, Fig. 6, are pivoted on a plate 31 carried by spring- supported rods 32 slidable in a bracket and are caused to embrace the neck of the bottles by fingers 34 on the pickers 1. Fingers 35, 36 carried by the finger 12 depress the tongs while the affixing-pads 23 operate. A finger 20 depending from the hood 13 assists in centring the bottles.
