Hops; wort, hopping.-Hops are extracted in a tapering vessel 4, containing a funnel 7 with perforated walls 10, through which passes a shaft, carrying stirring-arms 1 with vertical arms 2, and a worm 9. The rotation of the arms causes the hops and liquid to pass into the funnel in which the hops are compressed by the worm. The compressed hops pass into the liquid through the base 6, which is provided with a spring-pressed closure or with an adjustable sleeve. The extract is discharged by running cold water into the base of the vessel.
