Abstract
17,936. Sutcliffe, E. R. Aug. 2. Calcium and other hydrates.-Lime and other oxides and substances, such as mixtures of lime with sand or clinker, are slaked by feeding the moistened material through a hopper f into one end of an horizontal cylinder a, the material then passing through an opening g<2> into a flat spiral-feed device h wliich discharges it by a central opening g<4> into the first of a series of compartments formed by partitions d having conical flanges d'. As it accumulates in this compartment, it passes through into the next and is finally discharged through a pipe j<1>. Steam or, in the case of lime, water may be admitted by a central pipe e, and surplus steam is withdrawn by a hood k<1> set in a housing k.
