Abstract

16,123. Fiechtl, L., and Breuning, R. March 8, [Convention date]. Void. [Published under Section 91 of the Act. [Application for Patent of Addition to 24,927/11.] Valves controlled from a distance.-Consists in an improvement in the valve device described in the parent Specification for automatically closing gas pipes when the gas supply fails or is cut off and whereby the gas-pipe is not opened by the restoration of the gas supply but only by a manual operation at the said valve device. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a chamber e, with a central partition k and side passages c, f, is formed within the plug of the usual gas cock d; a pin valve i within this chamber closes at the bottom the gas-discharge opening h when the gas has been cut off or has failed. When the pressure is restored, it acts on a piston-like disk i<1> and holds the valve closed. The manual operation required to open the valve consists in turning the plug so that the valve i falls by gravity to the opposite end of the chamber e, and then turning back the plug quickly so that the valve i is sustained in the open position by the flow of the gas, as indicated by the arrows. A pin l guides the valve i in its upper position. The valve i may be disposed axially within the plug. Fig. 6 shows the valve i used independently of a plug cock with a manually-operated opening pushpin n. Fig. 7 illustrates a form of the device in which a ball valve i replaces the pin valve shown in Fig. 1.
