Abstract

12,656. Larsen, J. July 29, 1911, [Convention date]. Sewing - machines; needle - shields; needles, driving; presser-feet; presser-bars, locking.- An eyed needle 13 is used for stitching boots and shoes without the aid of an awl, and is stayed by a needle-shield 14, which is not positively actuated hut loose upon the pivot 12 and is gripped by the needle as it'bends slightly in piercing the work. The presser-foot 15 is pierced to provide a second support for the needle near to the work. The needle is oscillated through a pitman 8 from a sleeve 2 sliding upon a central post under the control of a crank on a shaft 3. The presser is pressed on to the work and locked by a wedge-piece 17 actuated from a cam on the shaft 3.
