Water paints.-In coating surfaces such as ships' decks, flooring, &c. with magnesium oxychloride cement, a preliminary coating consisting of sodium or potassium silicate, magnesium or calcium silicate, with or without calcium or aluminium hydroxides, is applied to the surface in order to prevent corrosion of the surface by the cement.
