Abstract

[Cognate Applications, 13,098/12 and 17,110/12.] Couplings.-Flexible connecting-cords are provided with spring protecting-devices at their point of attachment to telephone plugs &c. to prevent fracture due to bending. The device may consist of a helical spring b, Fig. 1, formed from a tape or ribbon of metal. The pitch of the helix may decrease continuously from the plug. Otherwise a helix formed of a number of springs c, Fig. 2, wound side-by-side may be used, a spring tube g being inserted at the end of the spring to protect the conducting-wires. In another form a flat spring f, Fig. 5, is used, clips p, n, o being provided for attachment to the plug and cord. With the form of spring shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a spring clip is used to attach the spring to the plug. If the spring and plug are not of the same diameter, a compound clip is used, the clip being made by removing a part l from a simple clip h for say three-quarters of the circumference. The protecting springs may be covered with plaited braid &c., and between the spring clip and the plug resin or gum may be applied, with glass, emery, &c. The first Provisional Specification describes a protective covering consisting of a number of wires arranged in the form of a cylindrical tube.
