Gas fires.-A burner having a long narrow outlet in a head set at an angle to the body or mixing-chamber directs a sheet of flame uninterruptedly towards a forwardly - inclined fire back. The ordinary asbestos balls M are prevented from falling into the path of the flame by long asbestos bars arranged slantwise against the fire back as shown in Fig. 5.
