Abstract
10,826. Berger, L. May 7. Pocket igniters, frictional and like.-A fuel cartridge for cigar-lighters &c. consists of an hermetically closed capsule of gelatine, thin metal, glass, or the like, containing benzine or like fuel. The hermetic closure is destroyed when the cartridge is used. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, the capsule 1 has an indentation 3, which is pierced by a spring-mounted pin 6 when the neck of the capsule is inserted in the filling-aperture 4 of the igniter. The capsule is then compressed to expel the contents into the reservoir of the igniter, the pin 6 having a flattened point to allow the expulsion. In a modification, Fig. 3, the cartridge 1 is inserted in a lower chamber of the igniter, having an air-tight lid 11, and is pierced by screwing-in the pin 13. On inverting the igniter, the fuel passes through a perforated partition 7 into the absorptive material 8. In other forms, the cartridge may be filled with absorptive material 15, Fig. 8, and when inserted in the casing 20 from below, it is pierced by the pointed end of a perforated wick-tube 18. A compartment 21 may contain a reserve cartridge. The wick-tube 18 may be secured to a screwed lid 22, Fig. 9, and may have spikes 23 to withdraw the spent cartridge when the lid is removed. The cartridge may be fitted with a wick 24, Fig. 10, the end of which is covered by an hermetically sealed cap 27, which is removed and the cartridge inserted in an igniter having a cover 30 with a neck 31, Fig. 12.
