8596. Murdocke, J. A. April 11. Hinge pins; barrel and cylindrical hinges.- A hinge for carriage, motor-car, and other doors is provided with a socket b on the plate c between upper and lower sockets e, f on the plate d, and with a hinge pin a having an intermediate coned portion and fitting the socket b, the smaller upper end of the pin adjustably screwing into the socket e, and the plain lower end fitting within the socket f. A lock-nut i is screwed upon the upper projecting end of the pin and is provided with a cavity and hole j for holding a wad of absorbent material and for allowing the introduction of a lubricant. The pin may be provided with a drilled hole or groove k to allow the lubricant to reach the conical bearing- surface. The socket b may be provided with a groove k-cut across the upper surface and exposed when the door is open to allow the insertion of the lubricant. The nut i may have a conical or shouldered extension as shown in Fig. 3.
