Abstract
7954. Crawford, C. J., and Harry, R. H. April 2. Cee, composite, and laminar springs; connexions and attachments applicable generally for tensile and compressive springs.-Relates to spring shock-absorbers of the kind that are inserted between the ends of laminated vehicle springs and the frame member, and of the type comprising a jointed parallelogram having one pair of opposite corners connected with the end of the laminated axle spring and frame member, the other pair being operated on by a spring which prevents them from coming together. The invention consists in providing the pair of links connected to the frame member with projections which extend beyond their pivot and are operated upon bv a horseshoe-shaped spring, which may surround the link-work. Fig. 1 shows the jointed parallelogram consisting of links n, the joint m of which is connected with the end of the laminated spring g by links h, and links p, the joint pin q of which is mounted in a circular casing f suspended from a pin b on the frame spring member a. The links p have toes s tending to spread apart the free ends of a laminated horseshoe-shaped spring u mounted in the casing. The links h pass through slots w in the casing f and are provided with slots k for guiding the pin b. Upward and downward movements of the spring g with respect to the spring a are cushioned by the outward movement of toes s, which operate upon the ends of the spring u.
