Abstract

6738. Bone, W. A., and McCourt, C. D. March 19. Pipes. - Accidental propagation of a flame backwards along a pipe conveying a combustible mixture of gases is prevented by introducing a plug of refractory porous material into an enlargement of the pipe, and means are provided for automatically cutting off the gas supply in the event of lighting back. The plug 3, made as described in Specification 25,808/09, [Class 75(i), Burners &c.], is contained in the casing 2 which forms part of the conduit 1. A cut-off valve 5 is held in position by a fusible wire 7 and spring 6 so that the valve is closed when the wire melts. At the same time, the handle of the valve completes a circuit with the contact 10 and thus rings the alarm 9 The invention may be applied to steamgenerators fired in the manner described in Specification 4362/10, [Class 123 (ii), Steamgenerators].
