6076. Vaughn, L. D., and Miller, T. March 11. Lighting burners by frictional devices.-Relates to igniters for miners' or other lamps, of the kind in which a friction wheel and a spring-pressed spark-producing element are supported by a longitudinally-movable spindle to enable them to be moved close to the burner. A casing 18 containing the spark-producing element 22 is threaded into a plate 14 mounted adjacent to the burner, and the friction wheel 26 is carried by a spindle 23 rotatably mounted in the bifurcated ends 19 of the casing 18. As applied to a miner's lamp, the plate 14 has a curved portion 15 embracing a tube 12 enclosing the wick-regulator, and is guided by a screw 16. The spindle 23 is rotatable in a tube 24 extending through the cil container, and has a collar 28 to prevent gas from entering the lamp. When using the igniter, the entire device is raised by raising the spindle 23, and the head 27 then prevents gas from entering the tube 24 and the lamp.
