Abstract

6031. Lach, B. March 13, 1911, [Convention date]. Fibrous plastic compositions. - Wood-meal, sawdust, &c. have their resins extracted by treatment with alkali and precipitation with acid, the resulting resins being then dissolved or emulsified in the minimum quantity of a suitable solvent and used as a binder for the wood-pulp. Application of a pressure of 200-300 atmospheres squeezes out the solvent and leaves a hard compact material. The solution of the extracted resins may be strengthened by the addition of colophony, viscose, glue, water-glass, ' sulphite-liquors,' and the like; while to the wood-pulp may be added asbestos, cork-meal, leather-meal, or other fibrous or powdered substances.
