Abstract

4690. Machenbach, R. Feb. 25, 1911, [Convention date]. Projectile fuses ; projectiles. - Relates to projectiles adapted to be fired from the muzzle of a gun, and consists in means whereby the fuse is automatically armed on insertion on the barrel. This is effected by providing a lever 17 adapted to be rocked by the muzzle so as to withdraw the locking- pin 15 from the safetypin 14, which is thereupon ejected by the spring 16. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) describes also a form of shell in which the filling is arranged round the stem of a mushroom - shaped explosive chamber. Special forms of packing are also described for the guide-rod. These modifications comprise a washer compressed by a driving-disk, a hollow cup expanded by a bullet from the cartridge, or rings or caps which in some forms may be of steel or nickel-plated steel lined with lead. In some modifications, the gnide-rod is screwed or otherwise secured to the projectile in the cartridge, the cartridge being provided with copper driving-bands. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
