4444. Hoyle, W. Feb. 22. Bakers' ovens.-In an oven comprising two or more sheet-metal baking-chambers, the vertical and horizontal heating-flues are formed by projecting portions of the walls of the chambers. In the arrangement shown, comprising four baking-chambers A heated from a fire-place D, the front and rear walls N of each chamber are extended both vertically and horizontally, the vertical extensions projecting the full width, and the horizontal ones half the width, of the horizontal and vertical flues respectively. The heating of the chambers is controlled by dampers C each consisting of a long narrow plate riveted to a rod, which is pivoted in the horizontal extensions of the walls. The bottom of the chamber immediately above the fire, and the tops of all the chambers, are protected by sand beds G, and radiation from the whole range is prevented by slag-wool or asbestos lagging J. By removing the cover-plate T or the end wall Y, additional baking-chambers can be added either vertically or horizontally as desired.
