Baling-presses.-An horizontal press for short straw goods, hay, wood wool, flax, &c. is provided by means whereby bales of a uniform density may be produced. A plate or rake c is pivoted at b so that, when the plunger d advances, the edge c<1> of the plate describes a path x, and the material in the feed-shaft e falls gradually over the edge c<1> and is thus distributed over the entire face of the bale and firmly pressed by the plunger which immediately follows. The plate c may be indirectly controlled by the plunger, or may be mounted on it and deflected by links or fixed abutments.
