Abstract

1495. Bruun, H. C. E. Jan. 19, 1911, [Convention date]. Fires, preventing and minimizing in receptacles for inflammable liquids. - Relates to storage plant for inflammable liquids, of the type in which a tank 1, having inlet and outlet pipes 11, 12 for the liquid, is surrounded by a basin 4 containing water, which enters the lower part of the tank 1 through an opening 16, in order to force out the inflammable liquid. Extending from the top of the tank is a ventpipe 15 for the escape of air and vapour. The level of water in the basin is maintained constant by means of a supply-pipe and a ballcock in a small reservoir 10, so that the level of the liquid in the vent-pipe 15 is adapted to indicate the volume of inflammable liquid in the tank 1. An overflow pipe 7 prevents the water in the basin from rising above the normal level. An outlet 5 for the water is bent upwards, and is provided with a valve 6. Water may be supplied to the tank 1 directly from the reservoir 10, the opening 16 being fitted with a non-return valve to allow only of discharge of water from the tank.
