Abstract

1494. Bruun, H. C. E. Jan. 19, 1911, [Convention date]. Fires, preventing and minimizing in receptacles for inflammable liquids. - Relates to storage plant for inflammable liquids, of the kind in which liquid in a tank 1 is adapted to flow out through a normally closed pipe 11 into a sub-space or cellar 4, where it is out of danger. The annular space surrounding the tank 1 is connected through pipes 13 having hoods 14 to the cellar 4, so that, if the walls of the tank are fractured by an explosion, the inflammable liquid may flow down into the cellar. A valve 12 in the pipe 11 may be opened manually, or by an increase of temperature, and is connected by a rope or levers to the roof 3 of the tank, so as to be opened in the event of the roof being blown off. The cellar 4 is provided with a vent-pipe 15 having a flame-arresting water-trap or wire gauze at the upper end. An overflow pipe 16 is adapted to drain off water from the cellar.
