Abstract

1202. Bradshaw, A., and Brown, P. P. Jan. 16. Cutting slices in succession.-An appliance for cutting bread and the like comprises a board or base 1, shown in plan, carrying bars 3 which form horizontal guides for a hand-operated knife 6. Transverse rods 5 form an abutment for the loaf, which is placed in a vertical position between the guides 3. The knife has a bead 7 to prevent accidental withdrawal, the guides 3 having notches 4 to allow the bead to pass when inserting the knife. To allow slices of different thickness to be cut, the guides 3 may have two or more slots for the knife; or the height of the guides may be adjusted by means of the screws that secure them to the board. The knife may be double-edged so as to cut a slice during the return stroke. According to the Provisional Specification, the guides for the knife may be arranged vertically.
