Abstract

357. French, A. W. Jan. 4. Fatty oils, extracting by pressure. In steamcookers for oil-bearing material, of the kind described in Specification 28,451/08, one or more of the hinged valves between the cookers are provided with means for keeping them closed until the meal in the lower cooker has sunk considerably, so that delivery of any of the meal in an uncooked condition is prevented. The valves C' are provided with flanges c, and in the preferred construction are carried bv tubes D journaled in plates d and carrying ratchets E engaging pawls F. Rods g journaled in the tubes D carry paddles G and trips H. In operation, when the lower cooker is full. the flange c is raised by the meal and closes the valves C<1>, but when the lower cooker discharges, the valve C<1> does not open until the paddle G has sunk as shown, and thereby operated the trip H to raise the pawl F and release the ratchet E.
