Abstract

Bayonet joints; overlap joints with packing at mouth of socket.- Couplings for gas and like pipes are provided with a resilient member which is deformed when the pipes are coupled, and serving to press the parts together. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a spigot provided with a guide flange 8 carrying a packing-ring 9 enters a socket 2. A pin 10 enters a bayonet-slot in a spring-pressed sliding sleeve 5 on the spigot, and is engaged behind a shoulder in the slot by the action of the spring. In a modification, the helical spring 6 is replaced by a plate spring secured to the exterior of the sleeve and engaging the projecting end of the bayonet-pin. The resilient pressure may also be obtained from the packing alone. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) states also that the fastening known as ' wedging, arched buttress, abutments, &c.' may be used; this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 12,452/91 and 3074/95.
