Abstract

28,952. Ravelli, A. Dec. 22. Wave energy, utilizing.- In apparatus of the type described in Specification 16,891/07, a partly immersed rocking platform drives a shaft. The whole apparatus is maintained at the tidelevel by movement along rails 1 supported on spaced standards 2. The oscillating platform 40 drives the shaft 20 by a slide 12, levers, and a double friction clutch. Springs 22 and a large number of flapvalves in the platform assist its upward movement. In order to utilize the energy of small waves, the descent of the platform is timed by the use of a pivoted wall 26 inside it and an arrangement of levers 27, 28, 29, 30 outside, whereby the levers 24 are deflected and allowed to close up. When the beach is but slightly inclined, the slideway 3, Fig. 3, is hinged about an axis 6, the posts 5 supporting the rails terminating in cylinders, which are inter-connected by pipes 7, the pistons of which move in a non-freezing liquid. By the weight of the apparatus, the front part always bears upon the beach and water is prevented thereby from passing underneath. To allow for the varying direction of the onrush of the waves, three tracks are provided, the two outside being at an angle of from 20 to 30 degrees to the track of steepest descent, a suitable turntable being employed.
