Abstract

27,674. Babcock & Wilcox, [Babcock & Wilcox Co.]. Dec. 9. Gas burners ; spray burners.-In burners in which a stream of finely-divided fuel is burned, the air for combustion is admitted around the flame in greater volume at one point than at another, in order to flatten the flame, by providing elongated air - inlet casings 3, Figs. 3 and 9, in the furnace walls and co-axial with the burners 1. The major axis of the crosssection of the flame is approximately at rightangles to that of the casing 3, as shown by the arrows in Fig. 9. The casing 3 may be oblong or oval, and may be provided with inclined blades 5, Fig. 3, arranged to impart a whirling motion to the air, or arranged as at 10, Fig. 5, so as to deflect the air without whirling it.
