Abstract
26,225. Kadow, A. Nov. 23. Delivering molten metal; blowing.-Relates to the manufacture of blown glass-ware, such as electric-lamp bulbs. A blank mould A, Fig. 1, is charged by suction or otherwise from a tank T and the excess of metal cut off as usual. The blank mould A is then placed above a blowpipe D, Fig. 2, and the jaws a are opened so as to allow the blank X, having a flange C, to fall into the blowpipe socket. The blank X is then seized by the jaws E, pierced by the plunger c, and partly blown, as shown in Fig. 4. The air pressure is then released and the blank is allowed to collapse partly, as shown in Fig. 5. It is then blown again, and again allowed to collapse. This may be repeated several times and the blowpipe may be swung. The blowpipe D is finally inverted, and the blank blown in a mould as usual. Details of the mechanism for carrying out these operations are described in Specification 26,222/11.
