Abstract

Rail sections; rail joints. - To prevent the formation of corrugations on the rail tread, a series of yielding members is formed on the rail web by substantially parallel slits therein. The slits are horizontal, Fig. 1, inclined, Fig. 5, or of an extended S-shape. The slits may be oblique or vertical, with the yielding members bent laterally, Fig. 8. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) states also that the rail may have more than one series of slits,'different series extending in different directions, for example horizontally or obliquely or both; and the slits may be in the ends of the rails to produce a yielding effect only at the rail joints. The drawing accompanying the Specification as open to inspection also shows the slits with circular enlargements at each end. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
