Abstract

21,939. Jones, W., and Mills, S. J. S. Oct. 5. Sluice valves. - In screw - down doublefaced sluice valves formed with wedgeshaped members mounted in the valve casing and adapted to engage the valve members and force them apart on to their seatings as they are completing their downward movement, the wedgeshaped members D are loosely mounted at their lower ends to ensure that the valve parts are pressed with substantially equal pressure against their seats. Each valve is formed with a pair of flanges a<2> which engage the edges of the members D as shown, whereby the valve parts are prevented from moving in a direction transverse to the common axis of the passages B<2>. Each valve part is formed at its upper side with a half box a<3> enclosing a nut through which the operating spindle C is screwed. Springs f are preferably arranged between the valve members.
